Nutrition and Health

Good health requires proper nutrition. All the essential nutrients (vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, protein, and water) must be consumed and utilized to provide adequate balance for optimal health. All nutrients are dependent upon other nutrients for absorption and utilization in the body. When a nutrient is insufficient in a diet, or increases are otherwise required, supplements may make up for the deficiency or need.

See here how nutrients affect other nutrients
Read a quick and interesting history of nutrients here.

Achieve Optimal Absorption

  • Generally, supplements are best absorbed when taken with food since nutrients are absorbed by the digestive system.
  • Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K), and multi-vitamins need fat for optimal, prolonged absorption.
  • Water-soluble vitamins (C and B complex) are well absorbed with or without food. However, taken with food, their rate of absorption can slow without decreasing total absorption. With food, excretion of vitamins lessens, and nutrient levels in the blood stretch out over an increased period of time.

CAUTION: Always use alternative remedies and supplements responsibly. Some supplements may interact with certain pharmaceutical drugs. Consult your Physician if you are prescribed and taking conventional medication. Keep in mind that over-supplementation can produce adverse effects.

As with all foods, remedies, and supplements, be aware of allergies/sensitivities, and immediately cease use if allergic symptoms occur and consult your physician.

SUPPLEMENT

BIO ACTIVITY

VITAMIN A

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin occurring in nature in two forms: preformed and provitamin (known as Carotene.) Carotene gets its name from carrots. It is a substance in many plant foods. Preformed vitamin A resides in certain tissues of animals that have metabolized and converted the carotene in their food to vitamin A (such as fish liver oil.)

Vitamin A aids in the growth and repair of body tissues such as skin, and helps to protect the mucous membranes, stomach and lungs, as well as soft tissues of the digestive tract, kidneys, and bladder from infection. It prompts the secretion of gastric juices. Vitamin A is necessary for strong bones and teeth, the formation of rich blood and maintenance of healthy eyes. It is necessary for the formation of an essential substance in the eyes, visual purple, which necessary for proper night vision. It is necessary for the conversion of cholesterol into female estrogens and male androgens. Vitamin A can be applied directly to the skin, to hasten healing processes. People suffering from migraine headaches and ringing in the ears, may benefit from vitamin A supplements.

VITAMIN B1 - THIAMINE

Vitamin B1 Thiamine is a water-soluble vitamin acting as a coenzyme used in the conversion of glucose into energy. It is a component of whole grains and is required for a healthy nervous system and mental attitude. It is necessary for consistent growth in children, and improves the muscle tone of the heart, stomach, and intestines. It is essential in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid used in digestion and by improving food digestion (especially starches and sugars) vitamin B1 stabilizes the appetite and alleviates fatigue.

VITAMIN B2 - RIBOFLAVIN

Vitamin B2 Riboflavin is a water-soluble vitamin that functions as part of a group of enzymes involved in the breakdown and utilization carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. It is necessary for cell respiration since it works in utilization of cell oxygen. Because it is difficult to obtain a sufficient amount from foods, and only small amounts are stored in the body, supplementation with a complete B complex is usually advisable. A lack of Riboflavin can decrease stamina and proper growth, and cause digestive disturbances.   It is essential for good vision, hair, skin, and nails.

  VITAMIN B3 NIACIN

Vitamin B3 Niacin is part of the B complex vitamins. Niacin is water-soluble. Three synthetic forms are: niacinamide, nicotinic acid, and nicotinamide. It assists enzymes in the breakdown and utilization of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Improved circulation and reduced cholesterol levels in the blood are a result of proper Niacin levels. Niacin is essential for proper activity of the nervous system, formation and maintenance of healthy skin, tongue and digestive system tissues, and synthesis of sex hormones. A deficiency of Niacin can cause muscle weakness, fatigue, low appetite, indigestion, diarrhea, and skin eruptions, as well as insomnia, recurring headaches, tension, nervous disorders, and even depression.

  VITAMIN B5 - PANTOTHENIC ACID

Vitamin B5 Pantothenic Acid is part of the B complex vitamins. Pantothenic Acid is water-soluble. It occurs in all individual cells of animals and plants; deficiency is uncommon. It is synthesized in the body by intestinal bacterial flora. Adrenal exhaustion, low blood sugar and skin disorders may be the result of a deficiency resulting from a lack of intestinal flora. The functions of adrenal cortex are correlated to the levels of Pantothenic Acid in the tissues. It stimulates the adrenal glands and increases adrenal hormones (such as cortisone) related to healthy skin and nerves. Vital to cellular metabolism, as a coenzyme it is pertinent to the release of energy from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins and the utilization of other vitamins. The synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and fatty acids are dependent upon Pantothenic acid. Maintaining a healthy gastrointestinal tract, withstanding stressful conditions, possible prevention of arthritis, reduction in toxicity of many antibiotics, and protecting against cellular damage caused by excessive radiation results from adequate intake of Pantothenic Acid.

VITAMIN B6 PYRIDOXINE

VITAMIN B12

BIOTIN (B-Complex)

A coenzyme necessary in making and oxidation of fatty acids, and oxidation of carbohydrates. Necessary for proper fat production. Stored in the adrenal glands, brain, kidney, and liver.

CHOLINE (B-Complex)

Functions with Inositol as a basic constituent of lecithin. Associated with the body's utilization of fats and cholesterol, preventing fats from accumulating in the liver and facilitating movement of fat into the cells. Essential for the health of liver, kidneys, myelin sheaths of the nerves, and helps to regulate and improve liver and gallbladder function. Aids in prevention of gallstones. strengthens weak capillary walls

FOLIC ACID (B-Complex)

With B12 and C, functions as a coenzyme in the breakdown and utilization of proteins. Needed for the formation of nucleic acid, essential for growth and reproduction of cells. Folate is concentrated in the spinal fluid, and calms nerves and promotes clear thinking. May help anemia. Essential during pregnancy.

INOSITOL (B-Complex)

Found in high concentrations in, and promotes the production of lecithin. Aids in the metabolism of fats. Helps reduce blood cholesterol. Helpful in brain cell nutrition with large amounts found in spinal cord nerves, brain, and cerebral spinal fluid. Necessary health of bone marrow, eye membranes, and intestines. May help prevent thinning hair and baldness.
